Create an alias address in SOGo webmail

Send email from an alias such as info@ or sales@ on your domain, and choose which address appears in the From line when you compose in SOGo webmail.

What this means

What this means

An alias is an extra email address that points to your existing mailbox — for example [email protected] arriving in your normal inbox — and lets you send mail as that address. In SOGo webmail you choose which address appears in From by selecting an identity. Any alias assigned to your mailbox on the mail server appears automatically as an identity you can send from.

Before you start

Before you start

You need an active mailbox and to be signed in to webmail. The alias must already exist on the mail server and point to your mailbox. You can send from [email protected] out of the box; any other alias (info@, sales@, support@ …) must be created by support first, or bought as its own mailbox.

Step-by-step guidance

Step-by-step guidance

  1. Open webmail: in the portal go to Services → your email service → Open Webmail, or go to https://mail.cmcloudhosting.com/SOGo/ and sign in with your mailbox address and password.
  2. Click the Preferences (gear) icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Open the Mail tab, find your account under IMAP Accounts, and open its identities/aliases.
  4. Click the + (add) button to create a new identity.
  5. Enter the Full name recipients should see and the alias email address — it must be an alias on your domain that points to your mailbox.
  6. Optionally add a signature for this identity, then Save.
  7. When you compose a new message, click the From field and select the alias — SOGo will send using that address.

What CM Cloud support will review

Contact support to create a real alias (info@, sales@, support@ …) on your domain and point it to your mailbox, or if an address you added is rejected when you try to send from it.

What is not automated yet

What is not automated yet

Adding an identity in SOGo only changes which address you can pick in From. It does not create the alias on the mail server or route incoming mail to you. If the alias does not exist or is not pointed at your mailbox, sending from it will be rejected.

Safety note

Safety note

You can only send from addresses your mailbox is authorised for. [email protected] works by default; other aliases must be added by support first. Sending from an unauthorised address will bounce.
