Self-service guides

Step-by-step migration checklists

Choose your migration type below. Each checklist takes you from your current host to CM Cloud without downtime.

🌐 Domain transfer — from GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.
  1. Sign up for a CM Cloud account at cmcloudhosting.com if you haven't already.
  2. Unlock your domain at your current registrar — look for "Domain Lock" or "Transfer Lock" and disable it.
  3. Get your EPP/auth code — in your registrar's domain settings, find "Authorization Code" or "EPP Code" and copy it.
  4. Disable WHOIS privacy (temporarily) — transfer confirmation emails go to the domain's registered email address.
  5. Submit the wizard below (Option A) with your domain and EPP code in the notes field, or email it to [email protected].
  6. Approve the transfer email — your old registrar sends a confirmation. Click approve (or wait 5 days for auto-approval).
  7. Done. Transfer completes in 5–7 days. Your site stays live the entire time — DNS records carry over.
✓ Your site never goes offline during a registrar transfer — only the DNS manager changes.
🗂️ WordPress site — from any host
  1. Sign up for CM Cloud Managed WordPress at cmcloudhosting.com/pricing.
  2. Install "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin on your current WordPress site (free on WordPress.org).
  3. Export your site — Plugins → All-in-One WP Migration → Export → File. Downloads a .wpress file.
  4. Import at CM Cloud — log into your new CM Cloud WordPress, install the same plugin, go to Import → upload the file.
  5. Test on your temporary CM Cloud URL — verify pages, forms, images, and any custom plugins all work.
  6. Update DNS — change your domain's A record to point to your CM Cloud IP (found in your portal). Set TTL to 300 first.
  7. Monitor for 24 hours — once DNS propagates, deactivate the old hosting.
✓ Test on the temporary URL before touching DNS — your live site is never at risk.
🖥️ Shared hosting / static site — from cPanel or Plesk
  1. Sign up for a CM Cloud Hosting plan at cmcloudhosting.com/pricing.
  2. Download a full backup from cPanel → Backup Wizard → Full Backup (.tar.gz). For Plesk: Websites & Domains → Backup Manager.
  3. Export your database — cPanel → phpMyAdmin → your database → Export → SQL file.
  4. Upload files to CM Cloud via FTP (credentials in your portal) into public_html/.
  5. Import database — CM Cloud DirectAdmin → MySQL → create DB → phpMyAdmin → Import your SQL file.
  6. Update config files — update any wp-config.php or .env files with the new DB credentials.
  7. Test via hosts file — add CM_CLOUD_IP yourdomain.com to your local /etc/hosts to preview before DNS change.
  8. Switch DNS A record to CM Cloud IP, wait for propagation, decommission old host.

📧 Business email — move mailboxes to CM Cloud
  1. Sign up for CM Cloud Business Email at cmcloudhosting.com/pricing. Note: email is sold separately from hosting.
  2. List your mailboxes — write down every email address that needs to move ([email protected]).
  3. CM Cloud creates your mailboxes — email us the list at [email protected] and we set them up.
  4. Copy old emails (IMAP sync) — configure both old and new accounts in Thunderbird, then drag-copy folders from old to new.
  5. Set up MX records — update your domain's MX records to point to CM Cloud mail servers (we provide the values).
  6. Reconfigure your email clients — update IMAP/SMTP settings on all phones and computers to CM Cloud's servers.
  7. Monitor — keep old account open for 48h in case of any emails in transit.
✓ MX records switch is instant — new emails go to CM Cloud immediately. Old emails are preserved via IMAP copy.
